A group of travellers walk along a bank of a river. They stop for a short while and have a rest, while each person finds himself a rock to sit on. Whilst connecting with nature, people feel much looser and free to connect also with each other - and a special moment is then created. This kind of unique atmosphere, that can be found easily whilst hiking in nature, was a great inspiration for the D&A system.

Research on public spaces, focused on campus areas, showed that most public seating options are cramped, uninviting, and offer the users limited ways of interacting.

A questionnaire presented to young students showed that there is a need for a new seating system that would bring different people together in a more inviting way. The D&A system was created for that purpose.

Improving interactions

The form encourages sociability but leaves open the option to sit apart - The freedom of choice in how to sit makes it easier and more comfortable for users to start up a conversation or simply sit and watch the world go by. The D&A can fit into different crowded spaces like lobbies, foyers, lounges, libraries, galleries etc.

Publications and prizes

The system was published already in several design magazines around the world and participated in different exhibitions, including an art exhibition in Nhow gallery in Zona Tortona in Milan (Italy). Winner of Saphire prize by Bezalel academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem (Israel) and honorary mention in "Project of the Year" competition from Israeli Architecture magazine.

The system, offered in upholstered finish, forms interesting landscapes of crevices and slopes where people can relax, retreat and meet. These landscapes can be adjusted to fit in various types of indoor public spaces and create several layouts that encourage different forms of interaction.

A better way to connect

A single D&A system is comprised of 3 modular units (6 meters long in total). The units can be multiplied and create many types of seating arrangements, offering formal and informal ways to rest. Each sequence of units keeps a flowing form, just like a DNA structure.

Student's dream

Placing the D&A units in campuses will help to elevate the level of satisfaction of the students and will contribute in granting the communal space a more welcoming and friendly appearance.

High quality fabric

The fabric, made in Italy, is a high quality polyurethane leather-like fabric, available in different colors and has a rough elephant's skin texture. It's characters and look highly fit the requirements for intensive use and high abrasion. The look is natural, it is durable and requires low maintenance - very easy to clean with a damp cloth.

A variety of configurations

One great advantage of The D&A system is that it provides high flexibility in space settting. Each stationing has a different effect on the actual stream of people around it. Thus infact, the architect can arrange the units so they will fit best in the space he creates and decide which kind of dynamics he is interested to emphasize.

A veriaty of functions

The common users, teens and students, can use the landscape in various ways - for relaxing, working on their computers/tablets, talking with friends, reading, etc. The D&A can serve also for multyplayer activities such as lessons, lectures, social games and other social activites.
